These transcriptions were made from original scores of the Civil War era obtained from various sources. Many of these have been arranged for modern brass quintet (2 Bb trumpets (cornets), Horn in F, Trombone, and Tuba) and in some cases transposed into more playable keys. Some of the arrangements are scored in the Civil War era instrumentation but have optional parts provided so they can be played by a modern quintet.

If performed on original instruments you will get an idea of how this period music sounded.

The harmonies are unaltered in order to retain the flavor of the period. In many of the arrangements optional parts for Eb Cornet and Eb Alto Horn are provided. Some of the arrangements also have optional drum parts to give the arrangements a full Civil War flavor!
